November 2006: Connected Communities partners have secured Interreg funding for the extension and roll-out of the Connected Communities project to 25 communities in Ireland and Wales.

Partners in the project include Muintir na Tíre, Deudraeth cyf, Age Concern, Carers Outreach and Health Authorities amongs others.

Muintir na Tíre, the national organisation promoting community development in Ireland, was established in 1937 by John M Canon Hayes. Through its core principles of neighbourliness, self-help and self-reliance, Muintir na Tíre has promoted and supported the concept of active community participation and championed the idea of community development in both Ireland and Europe.

November 2005 : Muintir Na Tire joins forces with Connected Communities.

Muintir Na Tíre has adopted Connected Communities as its model for providing information solutions for Rural Irish communities. Muintir will introduce Connected Communities to its Community Councils and Community Alert groups and provide training where required.

January 2005 PRESS RELEASE: Deudraeth.net begins roll-out of ClanEire system to 5 communities in North Wales

CARP: Content and Access for Rural People

With Funding from INTERREG Deudraeth.net has begun delivering the Connected Community initiative to 5 communities in the area of north Wales. The communities to benefit under this first project, called CARP, are Penrhyndeudraeth, Porthmadog, Harlech, Blaenau Ffestiniog and Cricieth. These communities already have access to wireless broadband through Deudraeth.net and throught this initiative will soon have access to a wide range of services including Community Portal, group websites, mobile messaging, online directories and much more.
